For years we have had customers asking, why not a light duty diesel? There is a lot of interest. People know they will get great fuel economy, great durability, and reliability with a diesel.
It has always been a difficult business case because diesels are expensive, and there is a lot to developing a diesel engine.
An Inside Look At The Ram 1500 3.0L EcoDiesel
We were fortunate at this point in time that our partners at Fiat owned half of VM Motori, who makes this diesel engine. As well as working with our Jeep brethren on the diesel for the Grand Cherokee. We combined resources and developed them together.
That cut the engineering cost down, and made us able to bring this to market. The foundation of the engine is the block. Just about every single component connects to the block and it really is a key component to the success of the engine. CGI blocks are becoming the norm with modern engines because it is stronger than a traditional iron block. Due to the increased strength, engineers can reduce the size of the block, thus reducing the weight.
Photo courtesy of Banks Power. To further strengthen the block, VM opted to use a bedplate. There are four bolts 14mm per main, but then an additional eight bolts 12mm holding the bedplate down. This is the equivalent of having six bolts per main. A forged steel crankshaft was designed to hold the cast iron connecting rods not Powered Metal Rods that are connected to cast aluminum pistons.

P was the code. The apparent cause was a loose clean air line from the N75 valve to the air filter box. It was secure on the air box side but ready to fall off the fitting on the N75 side. Reseating the line on the N75 valve seems to have resolved the issue. No cell or limp mode since. I will update this post if that changes. Last edited: Feb 1, Joined Jan 1, Location Willits, Ca. I've had to replace two N75 valves on my Passat. The most recent one was a week or so ago.
I do see the new one is a little different. Hope it lasts. I am fighting this problem right now. I tried a spare N75 I had laying around with no luck. It wasn't a new one, but one I had from a spare motor so that's not to say it wasn't faulty as well. I checked all vacuum lines at the N75, checked that the turbo actuator was moving freely with vacuum applied and examined all intercooler hoses.
The car will run fine for several miles, whether its easy driving, or hard acceleration runs. Then all of the sudden usually after pulling a slight hill at moderate throttleit will go into limp mode.
Code P comes up as boost pressure control range not reached. I am wondering if the MAP sensor is failing? Checked the air filter last night, cleaned the snow screen out, and everything looked good there. Could be a fuel filter I noticed and forgot to mention this earlier that the car seems to surge slightly. Not enough to really affect speed, but you can feel it surge a little with moderate throttle input.

2014-2018 3.0L Ram 1500 EcoDiesel Air Intakes / Filters
Sad to say the post is to see if someone can help me out with the problem I am having with my truck. Yesterday I took it to the mountains hauling a trailer with a small load lbs ishtruck performed well over all, made for a good day trip.
The following morning todayI drove a 1 hour round trip no trailer just normal driving. Around lunch time truck is at an idle and it throws a P code along with "service electric throttle control". So I started scanning to see if I could come up with anything. Used the Torque Pro app to look at stuff and to watch gauges.
Code could not be cleared using Torque Pro, also while driving I have no boost from the turbo, built boost fine this morning. So this afternoon I went and disconnected the battery for about an hour, during this hour I took the time to clean the MAP and EGR tube, both looked like they had never been touched.Forums New posts Search forums.

RSamaroo New Member. My truck is a Ram ecodiesel withmiles. I was driving to work on a rainy morning, my truck engine suddenly stall and start smoking white around the right engine compartment. The smell was some what like and electrical fire mixed with engine coolant. Pop the hood and most of the smoke was gone, I check for leaking fluids around, nothing dripping.
I then noticed that coolant was a bit low. Truck restarted with no problem and no fault lights. To prevent any damage, I towed the truck to the dealer, their diagnostic was; 1. Air filter, 2. Coolant bypass valve. Then 2 days later I was told that it might be the turbo. I didn't agree with their finding and at the end of the conversation t told them that I will pick up my truck. The customer care personnel said, they will have the mechanic put the truck back together and when it all done they will give me a call.
I never got a return call, although I left at least 5 messages to find out if my truck was ready. Check engine light was on and after a scanned got codes P, U, and P Return home cleared the codes and restart the truck, with less than a minute the engine light came back-on, re-scanned and got the same codes. After 15 minutes checking the truck with my friend, who is a heavy duty truck mechanic, find that the turbo boost MAP Part : "Bosch " sensor located on the back of the intake manifold below the turbo Intake hose was really burnt and a piece was missing.
I removed the Intake and there is some oil, not much, in the intake, also remove the EGR pipe to the intake manifold, this was clean, there is a little soot build up in the intake manifold.
I also notice a drop of coolant on the EGR valve. He can be smuggled round off the strong pace, with first time blinkers an interesting change from cheekpieces. Struck into himself on his seasonal return so that is easily excused, he is the class act in the race. This contest can be won with topweight, he looks a big price with conditions to suit.
Made a pleasing return to action at Kempton over a trip too short. Rated as high as 167 over hurdles in his pomp, there is still some room from this 157 level here. The ground might not be quite as deep as he would like here and he is surrounded by other front runners. Should have the class from this sort of mark, but the race may not be run to suit.
This clearly will have been the long term plan for his this season but a career high mark is going to take plenty of defying. He acts on any ground, giving the impression that the step up in trip is going to suit him. He has cheekpieces back on for the first time in this country. They didn't work well in France so that is a slight concern. That horse won the Troytown from 148 so that makes this mark of 150 look very tempting. Faces a lot of competition for the lead however which isn't a plus for his chances.
Six pounds higher than that in a deeper contest, he doesn't look one of the more likely ones to challenge. Very one paced on his return, the step up in trip should help him, minor each way claims. Mullins, IrelandOne of two raiders for Willie Mullins in the contest, he has no stamina concerns, digging deep to win the Bobbyjo Chase in January on heavy ground.
All four career wins have come right handed, his efforts this way round nothing like as good which is a concern. Hammered eighteen pounds by the handicapper for that but rightfully so, he will have the race run to suit his hold up style.
Heskin T: Tom GeorgeProgressive last season, he is a strong stayer. His best form has all come at Cheltenham but the impression he gives is that this contest full of front runners will suit his strong travelling style. Needs a little more but is open to further progression.
Ran okay on his return, this will have been the plan over the summer to come back to this contest. Rising twelve and faces competition for the lead but not totally discounted. Looked a potential star when dotting up over hurdles at this meeting in 2015, his form since has been inconsistent. Plenty of front runners in here so will have to work hard to get the run of the race.
