Each time I open my Mail app on my iPad it shows me an email message from a year ago. This makes me scroll for minutes before I can see the latest message. Why is it always stuck at this email message? One way I can avoid the problem but not get rid of it is to flag a recent message in my Mail on my Macbook Pro and when it syncs IMAP the flag is synced as well.
So then I can tap on that last flagged message and there I go, I'm closer at the top of my list. Posted on Mar 26, PM. P P S:, I guess I found an easy solution; I simply delete the email it was always opening and now it seem to be that the iPad Mail app is working fine, displaying the latest email.

II hate this too! No good answers. Hate this. I Don't think sits, just the three or four users on here that have that issue, yet apple support never gave cause or root of issue. Just gave a "canned or scripted" copy and paste approach to solving issue: restore device, that takes hours and inevitably you lose soemthing every time.
That's a great workaround, but it will happen again with another message, it's obviously a bug because it doesn't happen on iphone. It's been months with this and it's frustrating. Jun 30, AM.

If the email is deleted, the system will latch on to another email to open repeatedly.
We ahd no problems since getting these phones over a year ago until a few weeks ago now. Apple help line not able to explain this. Since it affects both phones, the common factor seems to be the shared email account at virginmedia. This thread on the Apple Community site suggests that this is an iOS problem which has been around since. It started off as an ipad issue but note that iphones and ipads use the same version of the iOS operating system. Are you running iOS 13? As a Very Insightful PersonI'm here to share my knowledge.
I don't work for Virgin Media. I had searched apple forums previously and tried the workarounds BillC45 suggested and some others but found that sooner or later the problem keeps coming back. Both phones are on iOS13 and the problem did seem to start about then.
However, I found that my wifes phone already had the 'new mail on top ' turned on, so that does not prevent the problem. So, thanks for trying to help but I am not any further forward. This is from the Macworld article of 11 October about iOS13.

Every time I open Mail, it has the same message selected. I scroll up three or four screens to the new messages, then close. Next launch, it's on that same old message again.
It used to select the newest message on open. The message doesn't appear to be corrupted. I can read the whole thing, and it's all plain text via a listserv that doesn't allow attachments or HTML. Can't find any other malfunction in Mail. Rebuild Mailbox doesn't help. A corrupted email message can get stuck on your email system, like clogged pipe in your plumbing. In my experience the problem is always one of those joke emails that has been forwarded countless times.
Solution is to use the Web interface to your email provider rather than your email client app. In the web browser, find the offending email and delete. Then return to your email client. Your pipes should be clear again.
You may need to do a Rebuild command to reconstruct your local cache. Sign up to join this community. The best answers are voted up and rise to the top. Home Questions Tags Users Unanswered. Issue resolved before but it came back. Didn't last. It now always selects a message from last Friday when launched. Instead of showing me the most recent one, as it was doing before iOS 5, it shows me an old message being selected and displayed. So each time I need to scroll up to reach the new incoming messages. I did restart the iPad, closed all apps, and so on. I currently have 3 "Exchange" account configured with contacts and calendars and also the iCloud account. The old selected email is always the same one from Box.
I don't want to delete it, but that may be the fix. Basically, everything runs fine, but I am annoyed to scroll up each time I open the Mail app to see the new email received. Seems to happen after a while, where Mail probably got closed to leave space for other apps in memory Any ideas or tips?
VicoPad addict! Joined: Jan 8, Messages: 21, Thanks Received: 8, I suppose you could try moving the email to another folder out of the Inbox and see what happens.
You could even delete it, see what happens, then rescue it from the Trash, and see what happens. I rarely have more than a dozen emails in my inbox, and to the best of my memory Mail always opens to the last email I was looking at, or a blank if I emptied the Inbox before closing.
But I have to admit, I haven't been making any effort to track it closely, so I could be wrong. Thanks for the update. If you do go to Apple I'd like to know what they say, or if they just scratch their collective head as I am doing. CherrySS Expand Collapse. Joined: Nov 1, Messages: 1 Thanks Received: 0. I am having the same issue as of this date which means it hasn't been fixed. I've also had this happen before which is why I'm here this time.
The only solution I could find is to delete the email it keeps opening to, then selected latest message, then swipe mail up and out of memory, and after that it should open to the latest message.
